June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music in Ann Arbor, Michigan by our beloved founders Elizabeth Campbell, Frances Caspari, Georgina Potts, Nora Crane Hunt, Mary Storrs Andersen, Minnie Davis Sherrill, and Leila Farlin Laughlin.
Membership Information
- There are 226 active collegiate chapters and 113 active alumnae chapters, including the International Chapter.
- There are 5,375 active collegiate members and 4,085 active alumnae members actively supporting the Fraternity.
- There have been 126,805 initiated members since 1903.

Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc. was created in 1974 as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. Its mission is to promote all aspects of music creation, performance, and scholarship; and encourage service for and through music on the campus, in the community, in the nation, and throughout the world.
