Why Join Sigma Alpha Iota?

Sigma Alpha Iota is an organization that promotes interaction among those who share a commitment to music. Members of SAI are active in all areas of campus music and campus life, working closely with faculty, administration, campus and community groups, music professionals and patrons. In addition to personal encouragement and support, members may receive scholarships and awards in many areas and at all levels of music-related study. Sigma Alpha Iota has long been recognized as a leader in the field of music and provides a lifetime of fraternity contact.

Members of Sigma Alpha Iota, in college and alumnae chapters, devote their talents and energies to many national and international projects including those of Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc.:

  • The triennial Inter-American Music Awards (IAMA) and commissions recognize and encourage the finest in creative composition throughout the western hemisphere.

  • The SAI quarterly, PAN PIPES, comprehensively lists American premieres and works-in-progress in each Winter's special Composer's Update and is included in the Library of Congress Archives.

  • The Services for Musicians with Special Needs provide music, in cooperation with the Library of Congress, for the blind and partially sighted.

  • The People-to-People Project sends music, instruments, and educational materials to deserving musicians world-wide.

  • Undergraduate, Graduate, and Doctoral Scholarships, Summer Music Scholarships, and Chapter Outreach Grants are available to SAI members and chapters.

  • The SAI Alumnae Association

 

Sigma Alpha Iota accepts with pride the responsibilities and privileges of being a leader in the pursuit of music creation, performance and scholarship.

Requirements

To be considered for invitation to membership:

 

- You must have a sincere interest in Music
- You must have completed one semester as a full-time student at FIU
- You must be enrolled in a music course or have taken at least one credit of a music

   course (Ex. Music Appreciation, Marching Band, Master Chorale, etc.)
- You must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher
- You must attend at least one recruitment event
